Thyda possesses remarkable expertise in distinguishing between freshwater lake fish and those raised in artificial farms. She explained that farm fish are often administered chemicals to maintain their health, and she can immediately identify the farm fish based on their distinct sliminess that hampers their ability to dry properly. Thyda’s extensive experience of over 30 years in the dried fish (and sea snake) industry makes her a legit authority on matters concerning the quality of seafood. She learned the trade from her fisherman parents, and when they retired, she started sourcing seafood from other trusted distributors.

Thyda suggested 3 tips for a flourishing market business:
- Go all out for a beautiful & eye-catching presentation (to strike a fabulous first impression)
- Offer a personalised service such as giving samples (to help people feel welcome)
- Only offer exceptional quality products (so that customers return!)
She always lets her customers try the dried fish on-the-spot, because she knows that they will be more likely to buy it once they sample the exceptional quality. They’re hooked!

As we continued along the street, we stumbled upon yet another stall that specialized in a variety of sun-dried fish. We were struck by the generosity of the stall owner who asked if we had eaten lunch, and invited us to join her for a meal, gesturing at her plate of rice to show that she had extra.
